We all know it was Umberto Agnelli who first had the idea of stitching on a gold star to the Juventus jersey as a symbol of ten championship wins. In the spring of 1958, while Umberto was president, Juve secured its tenth title. In honor of that achievement (which began with the first Scudetto in 1904/05 under the stewardship of Umberto’s father, Edoardo) he was presented with a gold star. That was the light-bulb moment: Umberto asked himself, “What should we do with this gold star? Why not stitch it onto the team jersey.” The convention was born, later adopted across Serie A, Bundesliga, FIFA and beyond. The rest, as they say, is history.
Because gold stars are so central to ‘The Juventus Story’ (our version), we made sure to credit Umberto Agnelli for the invention. The question then was: how?

We wanted to use motion graphics to bring these moments to life—especially for figures from the past who are no longer with us. The search for material was endless, but we were relentless in finding those precious diamonds in the rough. Alongside our very talented Senior Head of Motion Graphics, Anyelo Luna, we unearthed and restored the archival images you see here.
The final version in the film (and below) features polished photographs—but they didn’t just come out of the box that way. Every image and camera move was carefully designed, tested and refined. We love these archival photos and still discover something new each time we look at them. Of course, Boniperti is easy to spot beside the president, but look again. See if you can spot Omar Sivori or other familiar faces in the mix.
In this scene we hear the voice of Academy Award® winner F. Murray Abraham complementing the artful motion graphics bringing this special moment to life.
